We were thrilled with the response we got in our December launch. It was inspiring, energizing, and a little bit frightening. People’s responses to CR’s weren’t just good -- these responses were really good. We are so grateful you guys took the time to share your talents. I can’t tell you how cool it was for me to personally use MetaBright in the way that we envisioned our users benefiting from the service. I became a better Ruby programmer because of the awesome stuff you guys shared!
Our launch also gave us deeper validation that our suspicions were correct. Give people an outlet to prove themselves, mix in some friendly competition, and all of a sudden you have a beacon for passionate and talented people.
That isn’t to say we didn’t encounter our share of problems. Some were technical (if you were with us those first couple of days, you probably hit a JS exception) and others were systemic (how do we maintain a stream of fresh and high quality content across all Challenges?).
What we’re rolling out today is meant to address the most egregious of these faults.
- User generated content: Users who surpass a certain point threshold will have the ability to create CR’s, Tasks, and Arena questions that are immediately published and available for everyone to take.
- Guided help: We smelted the Microsoft Paperclip, took the useful stuff and ditched the rest. Features that are new and a bit complex will have brief explainer bubbles to make sure you get the most out of MetaBright.
- Easier navigation: The Explore modal was meant to be used to discover new Challenges, but we found people using it to move between Challenges. We made inter-Challenge navigation way easier. Click your name in the top right corner of the nav bar and jump from Challenge to Challenge to Challenge.
- Updates to your profile: You now have more reasons to be proud of your profile. Your progress in Challenges and the Tasks you complete are now prominently displayed on your profile. We have a ton more rad stuff planned for profiles, so stay tuned.
These are just the more noticeable updates. We also have a ton of under-the-hood and performances upgrades that will make your experience on MetaBright way smoother.
That’s it for now. As always, feel free to get in touch with us if you have questions or comments.
